How we celebrated 'Te Wiki o te Reo Maori'.

 The Middle and Senior Kapa Haka groups caught a bus to Milford Mall where they performed for the public. Some other schools came and  performed too, so it was quite exciting!

 We created posters with special messages about cherishing te Reo (our precious taonga) and helping to keep it alive.

 Terina won a special prize for the work she put into her poster but they all looked so fabulous.
Some went up on display in the hall for our big school assembly.
Mrs Sutherland has put some of them up in the library too.

Some of us went to the hall with Whaea Judy to learn about using and respecting harakeke.
We had a read a round - and teachers visited other classes to share their favourite Maori myth.
We heard waiata over the speakers instead of the bell.
We learned and sang waiata with Whaea Rebecca too.

LEANING TOWER OF PASTA

Yesterday we made a leaning tower of pasta. We made it with spaghetti and mini marshmellows. We worked hard. Sometimes, we broke the spaghetti into small pieces so it could be better. I made it with Nancy and Miyu.  By Maggie
I was working with Kacey and Sharlene to make our leaning tower of pasta. We were working on Kacey's desk. We were struggling when we made our tower because it kept breaking. It was really hard for me and we did not have time to build it. Then the teacher said, "STOP!" and our tower fell but we did not worry. We were for the people who won. I made the leaning tower of pasta with Anthony, Zoe and Nick but Zoe kept eating all the marshmellows. We built a base first and then we started to go up.

Yesterday, we made a leaning tower of pasta. We had to use spaghetti and mini marshmellows. Jayden, Gabriel and Daniel used blu-tak because Daniel is allergic to marshmellows. First, we got into teams of three and we had to make a base before starting to build the top. Some group's towers collapsed but some groups worked together to make it strong. Jayden, Gabriel and Daniel made the tallest one so they came first. Terina's group came second and Campbell's group came third.

RACE RELATIONS DAY

I was excited because it was Race Relations Day. It was all day. The whole school was there. We were all in the parade. It was a lot of fun. There was lots of loud music as well. I saw some beautiful costumes. There were teams and games that I loved. I learned some Spanish and a lot of French too.
I was happy because it was a beautiful, sunny day. I loved it and it was a lot bigger and better than last time. It was so much fun.  By Ahlianah

OUR SWIMMING CARNIVAL

 Cool, fun and excited! That's how I felt at the swimming carnival. Trying to win is what I am doing. When I finished the dolphin dive, I was nervous because it was a tie. On the freestyle, I came second. I liked the dolphin dive.

 Yesterday, we had our swimming carnival in our school pool. I went with our class and when it was my turn, I was so scared and shy because I would not win. When the race finished, I didn't believe I had won all of my races! My mum was so excited and everyone was cheering and happy for me!
